East Coast Enchantment

East Coast Park is one of my favourite places in Singapore. It’s not the most isolated spot – certainly not the most pristine – but I find that every time I am away from our sunny island for a period of time, I miss our humble beach. Perhaps it’s because I grew up in the east and have so many happy memories of playing at the beach almost every weekend as a kid; perhaps because I go to East Coast a few times a week these days to run/skate/chill – it just feels like home to me. Just had two picnics there over the long weekend! (Where DID that long weekend go, by the way?!)

Love the floral embroidery on these denim shorts!

Sports Luxe

I love the Sports Luxe trend (sometimes known as Sporty Chic or Athletic Chic), which combines sportswear elements together with more dressed-up pieces for an urban, minimalist vibe.  The lines are usually clean (as sportswear is) and there is usually a play on fabrics and textures, which I love. Designers like Marc Jacobs and DKNY have been sending models down the catwalk in all manner of Athletic Chic styles; some inspirations here:

Of course, celebrities have jumped on the bandwagon. I think Rihanna pulls off this look particularly well (as she does with most looks, actually!):

Kate Bosworth, the master mixer, also manages the fine balance of sporty and elegant.

And here’s one of my takes on the trend. (I’m no Rihanna though, so be kind, please!)

Utilitarian

What do you wear to work? I interned at a PR firm while I was studying at SMU, then went on to work in an advertising agency when I graduated, and while they were not the most corporate of jobs, nor did my bosses actually come right out to dictate what to wear, I felt there were still certain standards that had to be adhered to – denim cut-offs, for example, I think are inappropriate in most typical office settings!

These days though, my ‘work wear’ usually means something comfortable and practical, depending on what I have to get done for the day. I sometimes have to lug around a whole bunch of stuff, so while I prefer smaller bags, quite often I end up carrying bigger ones on crazy work days. Utilitarian doesn’t have to be boring though! I find that a good, flattering fit, the right accessories and a nice pair of shoes go a long way. (And yes, I deem denim cut-offs a ‘Do’!)

Let me know how you decide how to dress for work each day!

Blue Suede Shoes

Elvis Presley is one of my heroes, and he obviously loved his shoes too! Ok I’m not actually certain he did, but I’m sure you’ve heard ‘Blue Suede Shoes’ – even if you’re not an Elvis fan. If you haven’t (horrors!) you can check out The King himself here.

So I have my own pair of blue suede shoes, and they are my current favourite because they may every outfit look better – even my old denim cut-offs!
