Sunny Sunday

The weather’s been sweltering in Singapore lately, and while I usually welcome beautiful sunny days, this period it’s been of the terrible kind – no thanks to our neighbours and the haze they have caused! Okay, complaints out of the way. How was your weekend?

For me, it was finally a weekend spent in Singapore, after the past few weekends spent in London, Paris, Lombok, Bintan and Taipei. While I love travelling, it was nice to be home over the weekend again. Hosted the Puma Night Run on Saturday night, and joined some friends for drinks after, but otherwise the weekend was mostly spent the way I like best: with loved ones, good food and sport. Also finally had time to catch up and hang out with my man, after the many hen’s trips and weekends spent away!

Mid-week, so happy hump day! I’m off to a shoot now. Keep fighting!

I Don’t Care If Monday’s Blue

I don’t generally hate Mondays. Tuesdays are sometimes a little hard to take, but Mondays are the start of a new week. Back to work after the weekend (even though I work many weekends; but my loved ones are mostly off on weekends so we get to hang out a bit more then); I try to completely switch off on Sundays – it’s mostly attending mass, spending time with family and indulging in several hours of sports. So Monday’s like a fresh start and a chance to get stuff done.

This skirt suit is a little ‘cuter’ than usual – but I actually love cute things! People are often surprised when they find that out – what, you saying I’m not cute?? LOL.  I love bows, ribbons and girly things. I just practice moderation and a touch of self-restraint, and don’t normally deck myself out like Hello Kitty on steroids – mostly because I cannot carry all that stuff off and would generally look like a first class fool, haha.

Think this skirt suit borders on that precarious line, but I’ll take my chances. Loved it in white (white with contrasting black bows!) but that pushed it over to the edge. So monochrome navy it was, and I decided to keep it simple with just a white crop shirt underneath. Couldn’t resist a touch of stripes and leopard prints for a bit of fun though!

“Friday I’m In Love”
I don’t care if Monday’s blue
Tuesday’s grey and Wednesday too
Thursday i don’t care about you
It’s Friday I’m in love

Monday you can fall apart
Tuesday, Wednesday break my heart
Thursday doesn’t even start
It’s Friday I’m in love

Saturday wait
And sunday always comes too late
But Friday never hesitate…

I don’t care if Monday’s black
Tuesday, Wednesday heart attack
Thursday never looking back
It’s Friday I’m in love

Monday you can hold your head
Tuesday, Wednesday stay in bed
Or Thursday watch the walls instead
It’s Friday I’m in love

Saturday wait
And sunday always comes too late
But Friday never hesitate…

Dressed up to the eyes
It’s a wonderful surprise
To see your shoes and your spirits rise
Throwing out your frown
And just smiling at the sound
And as sleek as a shriek
Spinning round and round
Always take a big bite
It’s such a gorgeous sight
To see you in the middle of the night
You can never get enough
Enough of this stuff
It’s Friday
I’m in love

I don’t care if Monday’s blue
Tuesday’s grey and Wednesday too
Thursday I don’t care about you
It’s Friday, I’m in love

Monday you can fall apart
Tuesday, Wednesday break my heart
Thursday doesn’t even start
It’s Friday I’m in love

I’ve never been to Paris. Well technically, when I did a road trip along the French Riviera a few years ago, we flew in and started our journey in Paris. I didn’t see a whole lot more than the Paris airport though because we left for Bordeaux upon landing. So I consider it my first time in the city of love. I’ve heard the good (“it’s so beautiful, so romantic”) and the bad (“it’s overrated, overrun with tourists and smells of pee everywhere”) so I thought it was time to see it for myself. While I wanted to save Paris perhaps for my honeymoon, the practical side of me took over – it’s a hop, skip and jump away from London, so it made sense to pop over.

Verdict? A mix of both the good and the bad. It is a beautiful city, blessed with a rich history and culture and with the most gorgeous architecture. The River Seine running through it just adds to its beauty and charm.

It does however smell of pee in quite a few places, and while I found the locals along the French Riviera to be friendly and lovely, sadly, not all my encounters with the French in Paris on this trip were as pleasant. That kind of killed it a little.

The friends who were in London with us hated Paris. I didn’t hate it, but I can’t say it’s my favourite city either, especially after the charms of London.

I did have a magical moment, although it wasn’t on the streets of Paris. We were in our room, it was just before midnight, I had just stepped out of the shower to hear my man excitedly asking me to go to the window. He had surprised me with a room that had an Eiffel Tower view. My love and I shared a moment with the Eiffel Tower in all its glittering, sparkling glory.

I love shoes in general, and other than platform heels (I call them stripper heels, because they seem the footwear of choice for that profession – least in my ignorant little perception portrayed in pop culture!), which I don’t like, I love them all! Strappy stilettos (preferably with a high ankle strap!) rule the top of my list, followed closely by ankle boots; sneakers, stomping boots and menswear-inspired stuff such as Oxfords, loafers and smoking slippers are all tied for third place in my shoe-heart.

Stilettos aren’t the most practical choice for running around though, and it seems my pain tolerance has decreased – I can no longer suffer an entire day in the pretty things. I also enjoy walking and try to minimise driving by walking to places that seem walk-able – again, not a great idea in heels!

Apparently, wearing the Original Yellow Boot from Timberland has come to means you’re ready to chase your dreams. Chasing anything does seem a lot more do-able (so comfortable!) in these stomping boots! Now, could they also double up as hiking boots for my next adventure…?

Check out my hike up Mount Kinabalu here and here, and look out for my post on climbing Mount Rinjani soon!)

And just like that, we’re at mid-week! It’s been a world-wind October – mostly because this was the month of (hen’s) trips galore! Most indulgent, I agree! In my defence, it also seems that way because I extended my September London work trip (photos from that amazing trip coming soon, promise!); Taipei (that just happened the weekend past) was planned pretty long ago: Batam (two weekends ago) was pushed back from an earlier date due to the loss of a loved one…and while trekking up Mount Rinjani (will post soon on that trip too!) was a little impromptu, the dates were set from quite awhile ago as we had to find a time my friend (who’s now based in Panama) was back in this part of the world.

Why not just have one big hen’s trip? It’s because I have many very different groups of girlfriends! I have some I’ve known since primary school; the ones I grew up with and got in trouble with as a rebellious teenager; some where we bond over a love sport and adventure; some who are super girly and who don’t do any form of sport where we enjoy shopping, talking and checking out new bars and restaurants; some from SMU where we spent many a night working together on presentations and projects (none of my childhood friends went to SMU; I went in not knowing a soul and hence made a lot of friends there!); drinking buddies; party buddies; and of course, my (twin) cousin and maid of honour, who was born just two hours after me, and truly  like a sister to me (I am sandwiched between two brothers). We have one short trip  coming up, just the two of us!

I also didn’t want a big, wild hen’s night with strippers and crazy drinking (been there, done that for other friends’ hen’s nights!). I’ve always found friendships a lot more meaningful in smaller, more intimate groups where you can really share and bond without the need for superficial small talk and making sure everyone gets introduced (and gets along with) everyone else. As such, I can count on one hand the number of big parties I’ve thrown where all my friends are in the same place at once – my 21st birthday, my 30th and new year’s eve last year where the man and I threw a casual NYE/housewarming house party in our new place.

A few more very short trips before the year closes, but for now, it’s back to some serious work! Working on the edit for two very exciting video collaborations – so look out for those! Am also hosting the Puma Night Run this Saturday, and have some fun episodes for stylexstyle to be filmed these two months – so it’s a pretty packed time. No complaints though!

In general, but particularly when I am busy and find myself having to run about from place to place, I tend to choose clothes that are comfortable and fuss-free. I got these denim overalls in Seoul about two years ago – although I think my girlfriends who were with me judged me then for getting them! Turned out to be a pretty good buy as two years on, still loving them. They fit slightly slouchy and super comfy, the way I generally like my clothes, are at the right length so they’re not too short nor make me look frumpy and they seriously can be styled in so many ways.

I love playing with different textures so I put on a pretty silk camisole underneath then threw on this textured Aztec vest (snapped up at a steal at a MNG sale in glee!) over as contrast to the black denim overalls. Accessorized with a structured straw clutch, duo-tone sandals (I love leopard prints – no Ris Low jokes, please!) and a yellow ‘banana’ necklace.

Till the next post (travel one!)! xx

Stylish Life

This happened quiteeee awhile back (back in 2013!), but as I always say, better late than never!

The good folks at Lenovo engaged me for the launch of their Yoga tablet this time last year (okay, really a little long, heh).

She’s so statuesque – I felt dwarfed next to her!

With Mediacorp makeup artist, Alvin.

All smiles when you throw a shirtless guy in the mix! (At least for me; not sure about for the Muttons, lol!)

Jade Seah

I know it looks like pure glee when he graciously acceded to my request that he take off his shirt, but actually I was just being professional and helping the audience say what they were dying to say, “Take it off, take it off!”

Jade Seah

I was merely showing an appropriate amount of enthusiasm. Not to be misconstrued as shameless excitement or anything of the sort; no sir, not this good, Catholic girl.

Oh and the picture was, erm, taken for posterity. (Good things must share!)

Jade Seah

When I finally let him off the stage, he was probably thinking, ‘thank goodness, crazy lady!’. LOL sorry, HaoRan!

Jade Seah

Lenovo was super generous with four lucky winners walking off with a brand new Yoga tablet each!

Jade Seah

With the Muttons and the Lenovo team – thanks for having me!
