How to Stay Cool in the Heat

We’ve been having such sunny days of late! While it gets a little warm some days, even by my tropical-heat-loving standards, most days I love it, and I LOVE how there isn’t much rain. Hate the cold and wet of dreary rainy days!

While it’s true I don’t feel warm easily and I don’t perspire much, which makes the tropical heat a lot more pleasant for me than for those who have “hot bodies” (heh), I also try as far as possible to dress for the weather. So while I have a lot of jackets/fuzzy jumpers/smart blazers and the like, I’ve not been doing the layered look much at all lately. Instead, my trusty shorts have seen a lot of wear-time, together with some forgotten dresses and singlets.

My dresses especially are great for the heat as I prefer mine shift, straight or slouchy cut; nothing too form-fitting – don’t you find tight clothes very stifling when it’s warm out?

White dresses are my favourite, and a disproportionate number of dresses in my wardrobe are white. This in spite of the fact that there are fewer chances for me to wear them as it’s inappropriate to wear a white dress to a wedding unless you’re the bride – and at this age, it seems there are a lot of weddings to attend indeed!

Love this white shift from Headline Seoul which is minimalism the way I like – a clean silhouette with a play on textures (there’s a mix of materials on this number).

Find out in this fun challenge!

In this episode, I hang out with fashion blogger, Willabelle Ong of Pale Division and challenge her to style an outfit with a trash bag as the main focal point.

How to Manage Relationship Age Difference | ChicPeek Ep 48

He’s a radio DJ and one half of The Muttons on 987fm, she’s a fashion personality and blogger – and they have a 17 year age gap between them. They’re getting married in a few weeks’ time and I managed to convince them to take a break from wedding prep to let me ask them really nosy questions, like how they got together, whether the age difference was a problem, what they hate about the other’s fashion choices, and the like, heh. (Thanks guys for being so candid and cool about it!)

What Men REALLY Want You to Wear | ChicPeek Ep 47

The boys give me a lesson on what men really prefer you to wear on a date – take their advice at your own risk!

This continues from the previous episode where Elliot and fellow Tree Potatoes, Foxy and Aaron showed up at my place to give me a fashion lesson (and a rude shock!) while I was filming an episode of ChicPeek at home. (I invaded Elliot’s place previously; check out the full video on the Tree Potatoes’ channel here if you haven’t!)

How Much to Put in Wedding Angpow

‘Kena’ a ‘red bomb’ (received a wedding invitation) and dreading the expensive red packet you have to ‘bao’ (pack)? Not sure how much money to give at weddings?

Here in Asia, we typically give red packets filled with an amount of cash rather than wedding presents, which is more of a Western tradition. The amount to put in always takes a bit of figuring out – too much and you might look a bit of a show-off (plus most people aren’t that flush with cash to be able to just put a whole lot without feeling a real pinch); too little and you look like a cheapskate or a bad friend/relative.

As always, I do the dirty for you and ambush people on the streets in Singapore to find out how they figure this social situation out.

You can thank me later. Or you can ‘bao’ me an angpow in gratitude too.

How to Take the Perfect Selfie (Hair Tips) | ChicPeek Ep 44

Ah. The age of the #selfie. These days, being able to look good in selfies is (almost) as important as looking good in real life – we’re in this time where if it’s not posted and people can’t see/like it, it isn’t REAL.

Potential employers now review social media accounts before hiring – so how you present yourself is crucial! A flattering profile photo can give your social life a boost as well (think dating apps). In this day and age, there’s no doubt that having a great profile picture is a real advantage in life.

Of course there’s things like finding your best angle, getting the lighting right and makeup that looks best in photos are important, but what about your hair? Hair frames your face and can make the difference between a good picture and a great one, so with some tips from blogger, Eunice Annabel and her gorgeous head of hair (and her beautiful selfies – I’m a fan!), learn to use your crowning glory to capture the best version of yourself.

But first, let me take a selfie.

With special thanks to guest star Eunice Annabel for her time & tips.

Thanks also to Gerard of Shunji Matsuo Hair Studio for styling both Jade & Eunice’s hair.
