The Phantom of the Opera
I am a huge fan of musicals. A lot of it is as a result of my mother; since my brother and I were children, she has taken the time and effort to cultivate in us an interest in the arts – I used to watch almost every Act III production, my first being when I was about six years old. She also took me to see a ballet at the end of each year, when the Singapore Dance Theatre would have their then-annual performance (usually The Nutcracker). She brought me to my first musical, Les Miserables, when they came to Singapore in the early 90s. My nine-year-old self was enthralled.
I was lucky enough to have caught The Phantom when the musical came to Singapore and performed at the Victoria Theatre (before there was MBS or the Esplanade!) when I was about eleven, and again when they came to Singapore in 2007 (and it was my turn to bring mum this time!), so I was stoked to be offered the chance to catch it again in 2013.
Thanks MBS, Grace and Channel 5! Special thanks to my childhood friend, Jade (yes, same name – that’s two dads with great taste!) from Time Taken to Make a Dress for the gorgeous gown!
Brad Little was the Phantom again – apparently, he has performed the role more than 2200 times around the world. No wonder he gave such a stellar performance!
My hot date for the night!
Bumped into a few familiar faces as we hung around the bar!
