Tassels & Lace

I love lace and texture, although I find tassels a tad tricky to work; the look can go very quickly into country-and-western hell (that, or curtain-territory).

I found this top at a flea market that I really like though – the bold block of mustard balanced with sheer lace and a fine shower of tassels. That said, I still chose to keep the rest of the outfit simple – minimal accessories and a neutral palette.

Balloons & Denim

Been really busy with my new radio show on 987fm – sorry have been a little absent from this space! (Tune in to 987fm for Off the Record with me from 12-4pm on weekdays please!)

Quick update with some behind the scenes snaps from a shoot some time back. Also, I would like to announce the winner of the giveaway in my last post! I randomly picked a winner after narrowing it down to a shortlisted few, and I’d like to say a big ‘Thank you!’ to everyone who commented – it really means a lot to me that you appreciate my style.

Congratulations to Shermaine Tham! Your comment was insightful; I’m sure you’re a stylish one and will totally rock the outfit sponsored by Jipaban! One of the kind folks at Jipaban will contact you by email for details on how to collect your prize, so please keep a lookout for that in your email inbox. To everyone else who tried, please keep reading! I will have another contest soon. 😉

Ok, a little behind the scenes peek now! Was at a studio shoot a while back and I loved the set up – so simple and fun!

Outfit Giveaway

Can’t believe we are already September; time passes really quickly! To celebrate the launch of my new blog, and to thank you for your support, I’ve decided to do an outfit giveaway for all you readers! I really enjoy reading all your lovely comments on my outfits – thank you for your kind words! Thanks also for sending me pictures of yourselves wearing maryjulian; for me, that’s the best compliment anyone can give —wearing the pieces I very carefully curate or design.

It’s really simple to take part in this giveaway. All you have to do is leave a comment on my blog (with your name and email address so we can get in touch with you!), telling me which outfit below you like the best and why.

These are some my favourite outfits these past few weeks; hope find one that you like too! For this very first giveaway, I’ll be giving away the very first outfit I posted on this blog, seen here.

One lucky reader will get this Jackson Military dress in red, as well as some arm candy! I really love this dress because it’s versatile in its simplicity, but the military buttons give it a twist and make it unique. Perfect for Sunday brunches or even to work if you throw a blazer over. So it’s that simple; let me know your outfit pick, why you like it best, and stand to win these great pieces kindly sponsored by Jipaban.com!

I will pick a winner by the 12th of September, so remember to comment by then!

Leather

You already know I love texture, and leather and lace (cliche unintended!) are some of my favourite materials. I got this 100% natural leather skirt some time back from MNG, and it’s one of my favourite go-to pieces for days when I don’t know what to wear – perfect with one of my many slouchy tees!

Field of Dreams

Thought I’d share some photos from a recent photoshoot. These are for press releases, such as a recent Fever Avenue interview, which you can read here (thanks for the write up, guys!). I picked pieces which are either already out on maryjulian or coming out soon, and I had so much fun shooting these pics.

Love how subtly sexy sheer pieces can be! Plus I’m a fan of colour pops – I’m always drawn to details like the sunny collar and the accessories (all of which can be found here). The shoes are super gorgeous as well – have such a weakness for T-bar anything!

Here is one my favourite casual tops, aptly called the Field Of Dreams. It’s completely sold out on the maryjulian site – no surprise seeing how gorgeous it is. The vest is coming soon to maryjulian though, so grab while you can!

How gorgeous are these heels?! They are by Zapatos (not sure if they are out yet though).

Bright colours help perk up my day and instantly put me in a better mood!  Plus these suede harem pants are so comfy, love wearing them. They feel like sweatpants but sans the sloppiness. Perfect for I-don’t-know-what-to-wear days!

Cargos Revisted

I went through a phase with cargo pants (and shorts! And skirts – the horror!) while growing up. I blame TLC for the influence. I thought I was Left-Eye, bless. (I’m sure she is resting in peace and looking fabulous up there.) The horrible result that ensued as a result of my early teenage (read: young and stupid) interpretation though, that, I can only blame on myself.

More than a decade after throwing out those utilitarian baggies, I finally felt ready to buy another pair of cargo pants – albeit a skinny-fitting, updated pair (but of course!). I quite love them; like jeans, but more fun, and easy to dress up with heels, a smart top and a blazer, and just as easy to dress down with sneakers, an old worn-out concert tee and a trucker cap.
